“The wound is the place where the light enters you.”
For me, this Rumi quote holds a special meaning. It embodies the pain and struggle that I, as a dark-skinned, curvaceous woman, once experienced with self-esteem and negative self-image. I know what it’s like to look in the mirror and not like what is staring back at you.
It was a wound that ran deep and caused me to develop maladaptive behaviors when it came to relationships, dating, and figuring myself out.
But as fate would have it, I found my way to personal therapy. Over time, I explored various therapists and techniques, experiencing my own healing journey and learning what had been hindering me and my life goals such as finding a life partner and feeling more confident. This led me to pursue a doctorate in Counseling Psychology, where I gained the theoretical grounding and even greater insight into human functioning, relationships, the effects of trauma, and so much more. I know firsthand what it’s like to feel powerless and lost as I have worked a version of this path myself. That’s why I am passionate and dedicated to the work I do. I am on a mission to hold your hand through this stage of your life and help you create the life you want and deserve.

I adore travelling, especially solo travelling! As someone who has anxiety, solo travel has been a massive confidence booster for me as it pushed me out of my shell and rely on my skills to navigate new situations. I have made many unexpected connections and friendships, learnt lots of new things, and had incredibly meaningful experiences along the way.
I am a Carnivalist at heart! Wearing beautifully elaborate featured costumes or being covered in paint and powder while dancing to energetic music is a deeply spiritual experience that makes me feel connected to my ancestors. The inclusivity, community, unity, and belonging that’s at the core of carnival is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the African diaspora, which fosters a grounding experience for me.
I would spend all day at the beach if I could! I grew up near the coast in the Netherlands, so escaping the hustle and bustle of the city, listening to the sound of waves, and the smell of the ocean, and indulging in freshly cooked seafood remind me of home. The beach never fails to soothe my mind and rejuvenate my spirit.
